Sudbury Program Grants awarded in 2002 and 2003
Community Building Grants
 First Parish of Sudbury (fiscal agent), Sudbury, MA, $1,000
  To help support a community production of the musical, Falsettos, a play that promotes acceptance and understanding.
   
 First Parish of Sudbury, Sudbury, MA, $25,000
  To support completion of the Atkinson Wing reconstruction begun in 1991 to create additional handicapped-accessible meeting space for community use.
   
 St. Elizabeth's Church, Sudbury, MA, $15,000
  In support of a capital campaign that will expand and renovate meeting space for use by community groups.
   
 Sudbury United Methodist Church, Sudbury, MA, $24,000
  For emergency and other repairs at this community meeting place.
   
 Town of Sudbury/Council on Aging, Sudbury, MA, $24,000 (2 grants)
  To encourage residents to support their neighbors through continued funding of the Senior Volunteer Coordinator position at the Fairbank Senior Center.
   
 Town of Sudbury/Sept. 11 Memorial Garden Committee, Sudbury, MA, $5,000
  To support the creation of a memorial garden recognizing the three Sudbury victims of the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center.
   
 Town of Sudbury, Sudbury, MA, $4,500
  In support of Sudbury Day, a community-building festival that celebrates diversity.
   
Town of Sudbury, Sudbury, MA, $6,600
  To assess the feasibility of increasing recycling and reducing waste collection costs for residents through municipal curbside trash collection.
   
Town of Sudbury, Sudbury, MA, $1,000
  To enable the town’s Property Tax Equity Review Committee to conduct a senior citizen survey to obtain data needed to correlate taxpayer income with assessed home value as part of a public examination of issues surrounding property tax fairness in Sudbury.
 
Organizational Capacity and Effectiveness Grants
 Lincoln-Sudbury Scholarship Fund, Inc., Sudbury, MA, $5,000
  To upgrade the Fund’s outdated computer and database.
   
 Town of Sudbury, Sudbury, MA, $18,000
  To upgrade and modernize the Town Hall meeting room with technology that will improve broadcasts of town meetings over the local cable television station.
 
Preservation of Community Character and Assets Grants 
 Goodnow Library, Sudbury, MA, $17,550
  To extend the scope of the Library’s archives database from 1850 to 1900. The Sudbury Archives Project currently provides electronic access to information on more than 15,000 of Sudbury’s valuable historical records dating back to 1639.
   
 Knox Trail Council/Boy Scouts of America, Framingham, MA,
  $5,000
  For facility enhancements at the Council’s Nobscot Reservation bordering Sudbury, including signage marking significant historical and ecological features.
   
 Sudbury Valley Trustees, Inc., Maynard, MA, $4,500
  To enable the Town of Sudbury, working through SVT, to meet the terms of a purchase and sale agreement on a Sudbury property of environmental and historical significance.
   
 Town of Sudbury, Sudbury, MA, $12,500
  For counsel and an independent appraisal of the Sudbury Nursery, a 77-acre parcel of potential interest to the Town.
   
 Town of Sudbury, Sudbury, MA, $1,800
  To repair an historic clock located in the Town Center at First Parish of Sudbury.
   
 Town of Sudbury, Sudbury, MA, $25,000
  In support of the Wastewater Needs Assessment Project Evaluation Report to guide the Town in its efforts to protect surface and groundwater quantity and quality.
 
Youth Development and Opportunity Grants 
 Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Sudbury, MA, $9,500
  To help provide scholarships for student participation in a weeklong field trip to the Deep South in 2002 and 2003.
   
 Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Sudbury, MA, $3,000
  To provide scholarships for student participation in a summer trip to Russia to interview survivors of the Stalinist purges.
   
 Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Sudbury, MA, $3,000
  To help provide scholarships for student participation in a field trip to Cuba.
   
 Sudbury Extended Day, Inc., Sudbury, MA $5,250
  To enable after-school teachers to attend Wellesley College’s Social Competency Program to improve their skills and to enable them to teach their students how to handle conflict, bullying and other social challenges.
   
 Town of Sudbury/Youth Commission, Sudbury, MA, $5,000
  To enable the Town’s youth coordinator to develop programs that encourage positive youth development.
Other Grants
 Associated Grant Makers Inc., Boston, MA, $8,500/yr
  For 2002 and 2003 membership in this professional organization of grantmakers, which supports and advances organized philanthropy throughout New England.
