The Sudbury Program Guidelines
Investing in the quality of life in Sudbury, MA.

The Sudbury Program is designed to help the people of Sudbury and their public and nonprofit institutions enhance the quality of community life.

The program focuses on, but is not limited to:

Youth Development and Opportunity
Objective: To help young people realize their full potential and become caring, concerned citizens.
Community Building
Objective: To engender a spirit of pride and a greater sense of community.
Preservation of Community Character and Assets
Objective: To preserve the Town's natural, historic and other community assets.
Organizational Capacity and Effectiveness
Objective: To help public and nonprofit organizations fulfill their mission and consistently achieve desired results.

Sudbury Program Eligibility
The Foundation makes grants to Sudbury-based nonprofit organizations, the Town of Sudbury (and, through the Town, its boards, commissions and departments), the Sudbury Public Schools and Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. The Foundation will also consider the applications of public and nonprofit organizations located outside of Sudbury for projects of direct and substantial benefit to Sudbury residents.

Applying for a Sudbury Program Grant
The Foundation Trustees meet four times a year to review proposals for the Sudbury Program.

The proposal deadline and review schedule is:

If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, proposals should be postmarked on the first working day following the deadline.

Applicants are encouraged to discuss their needs with Foundation staff prior to submitting a full proposal. Telephone inquiries and concept papers are welcome.

We encourage applicants to plan ahead and submit their applications in time for quarterly meetings. However, we will attempt to entertain urgent requests between meetings. Please contact us if an emergency or exceptional opportunity arises.

Funding Restrictions
The Foundation does not make loans or grants to individuals. While we do not rule out requests for any particular type of assistance, we generally do not provide ongoing operating support, offset deficits, contribute to general appeals, purchase benefit tickets, fund efforts understood to be the responsibility of government or support religious activities.

Other Criteria
In the grant review process, the Trustees view collaboration among agencies with similar missions favorably and consider an applicant’s ability to secure alternate project financing. We welcome the opportunity to join with other funders in underwriting grant endeavors. Multi-year grant requests are accepted.
