Environmental Grants awarded in 2004

Fisheries Grants
 Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen’s Association, Chatham, MA $20,000
  In support of a campaign to protect the Atlantic herring from overfishing and to reduce by-catch in this important fishery.
   
 Conservation Law Foundation, Boston, MA $25,000
  A two-year grant, in collaboration with the Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen’s Association, to help document and assess the first community-based quota system in New England.
   
 Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance, Saco, ME $75,000
  Over three years, to help strengthen the administrative capacity of this organization dedicated to restoring and enhancing an enduring Northwest Atlantic marine system.
   
 Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance, Saco, ME $5,000
  For a series of technical support consultations.
   
 The Lobster Conservancy, Friendship, ME $15,000
  To enhance the Conservancy’s ability to sustain a thriving lobster fishery through science by assisting it with a change in leadership.
   
Northern Forest Grants
 American Chestnut Foundation, Bennington, VT $25,000
  Continued support of efforts to restore the American chestnut tree to its native range using a scientific research and breeding program.
   
 Appalachian Mountain Club, Boston, MA $25,000
  In support of community economic development that supports and exploits conservation goals, particularly the work of Businesses for the Northern Forest.
   
 National Wildlife Federation, Montpelier, VT $28,000
  Over two years, to support expansion of the model A Forest for Every Classroom professional development program for Vermont teachers.
   
 Northern Forest Center, Concord, NH $150,000
  Over three-years, to increase the Center’s capacity to build a public consensus to conserve and enhance the cultural, civic, economic and ecological wealth of the Northern Forest.
   
 Quebec-Labrador Foundation, Ipswich, MA $30,000
  Over two years, to support of the Community Forest Program to expand community ownership and management of productive forestland as a community development strategy.
   
 Residents’ Committee to Protect the Adirondacks, North Creek, NY, $15,000
  In support of the Adirondack Park Sustainable Forestry Project to build a local wood products industry that uses certified, Adirondack-grown wood.
   
N.E.G.E.F
 N.E. Grassroots Environment Fund, Montpelier, VT $200,000
  Sustaining support over 5 years for this small grants program designed to foster and give voice to grassroots environmental initiatives in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
