Fisheries Grants
 Association to Preserve Cape Cod, Orleans, MA, $5,000
  To conduct an independent literature review of the biological resources of Horseshoe Shoals in Nantucket Sound in order to better assess the potential impact of a proposed wind farm.
   
 Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen's Association, Chatham, MA,
  $15,000
  To support the Shanty Ocean Action Center, a place for Cape Cod fishermen and other community members to gather and advance discussion about responsible fisheries management, ocean health and protection of a traditional way of life.
   
 Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Brewster, MA, $25,000
  In support of the Cape Cod Marine Education Partnership which will design and implement new educational offerings on the natural history of fishing on Cape Cod.
   
 Coastal Enterprises Inc., Portland, ME, $20,000
  In support of Waterfront Access, a project to preserve Maine's traditional fishing industry by protecting working waterfronts through loans and related technical assistance.
   
 Cobscook Bay Resource Center (fiscal agent) for Saltwater Network,
 Stonington, ME, $70,000
  Start up support for the Saltwater Network, formed to enable groups in coastal communities around the Gulf of Maine to work collaboratively on community-based conservation and resource management.
   
 Conservation Law Foundation, Boston, MA, $20,000
  Continued support of the Sustainable Fisheries Marketing Initiative, designed to promote the viability of New England's coastal fishing communities while demonstrating the effectiveness of market-based incentives in promoting sustainable fishing methods and better fishery management.
   
Friends of Casco Bay, Inc., South Portland, ME, $10,000
  To purchase a laptop computer and LCD projector needed to transform the written Community Strategies to Improve the Bay report into individualized, multi-media presentations for each of the 12 communities surrounding Casco Bay.
   
 Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Portland, ME, $500,000
  To help fund the search for and initial compensation of a Chief Scientific Officer who will lead a multi-disciplinary team of scientists in strategic research to develop information and a new culture of cooperation between fishing and scientific communities required to sustain both marine resources and the communities that depend on them.
   
 The Lobster Conservancy, Friendship, ME, $10,000
  To expand and strengthen the Juvenile Lobster Monitoring program in an effort to sustain the family-oriented lobster fishery on which scores of coastal communities in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts depend.
   
 Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences, Manomet, MA, $24,000
  To develop and test a rigid-mesh bycatch reduction device for cod in an effort to reduce waste and minimize habitat disruption.
   
 Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance, Saco, ME, $25,000
  For expanded outreach and workshops for this fledgling organization which is working to restore and enhance an enduring North Atlantic marine system through a community-based, self-organizing and self-governing institution.
   
 Quebec-Labrador Foundation, Ipswich, MA, $15,000
  In support of a 4-day workshop on community-based marine conservation and management. Through examination of up to 70 case studies in fisheries management, wildlife conservation, water quality and habitat restoration, managing ports and harbors, and conserving bay and estuarine areas, the meeting will document the elements common to successful projects.
   
 
Northern Forest Grants
 American Chestnut Foundation, Bennington, VT, $50,000 (2 grants)
  For continued work to ensure that blight-resistant American chestnut trees reintroduced to eastern forests from a research farm in Virginia are suited to the New England region.
   
 Appalachian Mountain Club, Boston, MA, $15,000
  In support of community economic development that supports and exploits conservation goals, particularly the work of Businesses for the Northern Forest.
   
 Hubbard Brook Research Foundation, Hanover, NH $30,000
  For continued support of the Science Links Project, which promotes scientifically-sound environmental policy in the Northern Forest region and beyond by enhancing the flow of information between scientists and policy decision makers.
   
Northern Appalachian Conservation Network, Watertown, MA, $15,000
  To help build awareness of the cross-border Northern Appalachian ecological region.
   
Northern Forest Alliance, Montpelier, VT, $50,000
  Over two years, to support NFA’s work to protect forestland and promote economic and community health in the Northern Forest.
   
State of Maine, Department of Conservation, $15,000
  For a study to assess the regional economic impact of land conservation in the 100-Mile Wilderness Area of Maine.
   
 Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund, Montpelier, VT, $14,000
  To help retain a small business coach to assist local entrepreneurs with the development of businesses in forest products manufacturing and forest-based recreation in the Northeast Kingdom.
   
 The Wilderness Society, Boston, MA, $15,000
  In support of Maine WoodNet, a project that supports local forest-based manufacturing and improved forest stewardship through collaboration among western Maine's smaller woodworkers.
